Difficulty of block: easy (with patience)
Number of pieces: 47
Method used: hand piecing

Maze of Madness could drive you mad, if you let it. With 47 tiny pieces in front of me, I was up for the challenge. To this point, 28 pieces, was the most I had stitched together. I'm not exactly sure, but guessing I spent close to eight hours, from start to finish on this block. Not all at one time. It was spread over the week and includes prep time. It's not perfect, but I am very pleased.
Until next week.....happy quilting!

That Quilt

If you are a follower of Dear Baby Jane, you may have noticed that Anina has shut down her blog. I am only guessing, that it is because of the concerns Brenda Papadakis, author of the Dear Jane book, has with the name Anina used for her blog. I'm finding it hard to see a copyright issue here, but anyway, Anina has started a new blog called, That Quilt. So, you can continue to follow her great tutorials for making the Dear Jane blocks.

Difficulty of block: easy
Number of pieces: 11

This pretty little block is called Doris's Dilemma and it sure did cause a bit of a dilemma. I use the old fashioned method and trace the patterns straight from the book. As always, I began by numbering each pattern piece. Then something caught my eye. The inner square was on an angle. The original pattern was not. So, comes the dilemma. Do I use the pattern as is or do I redraw it, so it looks like the original. Well, I redraw it, of course!

Difficulty of block: easy
Number of pieces: 7
Method used: hand piecing

It's a little hard to look Abbey's Eye, in the eye! LOL The fabric is very busy. I narrowed it down to two different ways to piece this block together. I could, stitch together seven individual pieces or I could applique the two yellow pieces to the background fabric. I thought it would be more fun having the stripes go in different directions, so I pieced instead of appliqueing.

Happy New Year! Did you enjoy the holiday? It sure did go by fast. I managed to find a little quiet time to make a Dear Jane block. This one is called, Snowball. Appropriate for this time of year, don't you think?

Until next week.....happy quilting!

Journey Goals 2009

Just three months ago, I started A Quilter's Journey Back in Time. I must say, I am enjoying every minute of it. When I started, my goal was to complete at least one block a week. And so I did, except one week over Christmas. That's pretty good. My goal this year is to continue with at least one block a week. Maybe try for a couple of blocks a week, every now and then. Also, need to get going on some Quilted Diamonds. If you are making Dear Jane blocks or Quilted Diamonds, let me know. I would love to see them.
To see what other projects I am working on, visit me at Journey of a Quilter.
